Home Renovations are Still Being Kept Budget Friendly

(PRWEB UK) 9 May 2012

Door Handles LTD acknowledges that under the current economic climate that homeowners are no longer seeing their houses primarily as investments as they once would have but rather as just homes. A recent report by USA Today indicates that homeowners are now more concerned about liveability now that they may not be selling and moving on as quickly as they may have once thought.

The report talks about the efficient use of space as one of the biggest trends, where space may have previously not been put to use, such as extending rooms and removing walls or even reducing certain areas of the house and interior door handles.

Door Handles LTD would like to encourage anyone attempting to renovate their homes to take time and care when selecting handles for doors. Selecting the right handle can have a very important part in the overall look and feel of a house where it is vintage, modern, retro etc.

The company specialises in chrome door handles which look very good for people who are after a modern design. These designs come in both round rose and back plate designs with a new range of round rose due at the end of this month.

Another good type is brass door handles for those who are after a more traditional style of handle. These also come in both round rose and back plate handles along with polished nickel and stainless steel with the usual prices ranges between ?10 and ?20.

POETRY & MUSIC ON WOLFGANG’S FAN CONNECTION

(PRWEB) March 7, 2000

“A song is a formula: rhythm, harmony, melody, words. Those

parts are predictable, the easily identifiable components of

a song, and each of them has a predictable job to do.

Repetition, and rhyme are also predictable components of a

song, although they’re not really parts of the song, but

internal tools. But the unpredictable, the intangible, is

the creative part, the writer. And that makes each song

unique.” — WOLFGANG

MusicDish Interview – http://musicdish.com/issue/000118/spotlight.php3

WOLFGANG has always appreciated the strenght and inspirational power of those

words and the writer as illustrated by his site design. A melding of words,

image and sound charaterizes the site’s SIGHT & SOUNDS. And now, WOLFGANG

features the first of a series of works from poets and songwriters, starting

with works from Bernadette Giacomazzo. Bernadette, a freelance writer, poet,

model, musician, and livewire on the independent circuit, has written for such

magazines as In Music We Trust, Rockzone, and College Music, and has promoted

artists as diverse as Tex Axile, Haggis, and the Scars.

In describing the type of work is seeking to share with his fans and the

Internet at large, WOLFGANG comments that he “seeks poets who have had

spiritual experiences and have the creative skills to write about them.

However we won’t discriminate against people who follow no organized spiritual

teaching, nor against any organized religion. In essence, we seek “a higher

vision” in poets.”

200 Photographers & Videographers Travel Cuba

(PRWEB) March 15, 2000

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

200 American Photographers and Videographers Travel Cuba

Rockport, Maine?March 8, 2000?Two hundred photographers and documentary filmmakers from the United States are currently in Havana, Cuba, as part of project to document Cuban culture and life style. Assignment: Cuba is a program of one-and two-week educational workshops developed by The Maine Photographic Workshops and Rockport College. These two institutions are officially licensed by the US Treasury to conduct educational and cultural programs in Cuba.

“Life in Cuba is greatly misunderstood in the US,” says David Lyman, Director of The Workshops and President of Rockport College. “The US embargo has left the Cuban people with little economic support, yet Cuban culture remains vibrant, if somewhat stalled in the 1950s.”

The Assignment: Cuba project is an opportunity for American photographers and filmmakers to capture this unique society on film. The program is designed to be both an anthropological study and a journalistic undertaking which will result in editorial coverage concurrent with the project, as well as an archive for use by others interested in studying Cuba.

Fifteen of today’s most important photographers, documentary filmmakers and picture editors are participating in Assignment: Cuba as workshop instructors and team leaders. They will set the pace, teach the process by which photographers and filmmakers tell stories, and then critique the work, thereby helping their students learn to become better communicators.

National Geographic staff photographers David Alan Harvey and William Albert Allard are both leading workshops in Havana, as will Maggie Steber, freelance photographer. Alex Webb and Constantine Manos from the picture agency Magnum will work with street photography. Bob Krist and Len Jenshel, both noted travel photographers, will explore the culture of Cuba with their students. Nature photographer David Middleton and his class will explore the landscape and farmlands of Cuba’s interior. Picture editors from the New York Times, National Geographic and Contact Press Images will work with photographers on story assignments, picture selection and story layout. PBS filmmaker Bestor Cram will lead a team of documentary filmmakers in the use of digital video to record the photographers as they explore various aspects of Cuban life. The Americans photographers and videographers are guests of the Cuban Ministry of Culture. A contingent of Cuban photographers and filmmakers will participate in the project as guests of the Americans.

The Assignment: Cuba archive will contain stories, photographs, text and video captured by two hundred students in twenty-three workshops between February and April, 2000. Various media will be employed to produce and distribute the images and stories. Currently planned are a web site, video tapes for use by PBS stations and other news outlets and possibly a CD-ROM. The stories and images will be retained in an archive in Cuba at Fototeca, a photography center in Old Havana and in the Carter-Haas Library on the campus of Rockport College.

Note:

Assignment: Cuba is a photo and story opportunity, showing American and Cubans working together to document this unique culture. It is a people-to-people project, where American photographers and filmmakers work closely with Cubans to tell their stories through images, words and video tape while the Americans learn about Cuba and about their responsibilities as storytellers, photographers and documentary filmmakers. Reporters and television crews are invited to join this project to report on the process and the people-to-people endeavor.

Family Golf Outing Leads to an E-business

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (PRWEB) October 12, 2000 -

The idea was conceived during a game of golf between cousins. The Wisconsin cousin proposed establishing a Web site to help expand the Minnesota cousin’s handmade wood furniture business. Two years later, woodngoods.com was born. Laurie Hanson is the Wisconsin cousin who, along with her sister, brought woodngoods.com to life. The Web site features a complete line of handmade oak benches and other wood items from her cousin’s workshop in Wendell, a small rural town (pop. 159) in Minnesota. “I’ve always appreciated fine wood furniture and truly cherish the Sleigh bench my cousin gave me as a wedding gift,” says Hanson. “I also am familiar with the power of the Internet and was excited about the idea of offering others who enjoy handmade wood items the opportunity to purchase them without having to locate and travel to a specialty shop.”

Hanson’s knowledge of the Internet and what it takes to market a Web site is based on more than 17 years in the advertising business. Locally, she’s spent time at Cramer-Krasselt as the agency’s associate media director, and is now director of media at DMC Advertising and Direct Marketing. Another advantage Hanson has is the services of her sister, Linda Schmidt. Schmidt built and, via the Internet, helps market the Wood ‘n Goods Web site. “Without Linda’s Web expertise, I couldn’t have done this,” says Hanson. “It would have been cost

prohibitive for me to hire an outside company to set up Wood ‘n Goods.”

Ironically, Schmidt had no interest web designing until she built her parents’ Web site three years ago. Although primarily self-taught, Schmidt has taken some programming classes to learn HTML and Java, and worked with a template to create the Wood ‘n Goods site. Now she’s hooked and plans to “formalize” her training by earning a certificate of advanced coursework in desktop publishing at the W.C.T.C. this fall.

Woodngoods.com went live this February, but it wasn’t until just recently that the site truly was completed and ready to be promoted. “Over the past five months, we’ve done a lot of tweaking, editing and changing to get the site to where we both liked it,” says Hanson. “In fact, Linda’s still working on it. She’s

constantly improving load times, working with the images and trying new things to make it more user friendly.” The site currently hosts 50 – 100 unique visitors a day.

The sisters expect that to grow as more of the search engines, banner exchanges and free Internet classifieds they’ve secured begin to reach surfers. Hanson’s initial sales goals are modest. She hopes to sell 100 benches by year-end. The sisters feel this is realistic since the fall and holiday

season hold great promise as shoppers begin to turn their thoughts back to their homes’ interiors. Ultimately, the pair would like to ring up 1,000 sales per year. Both sisters have recently adjusted their work life to cut back on their hours. Hanson’s job with DMC Advertising and Direct Marketing is three days a week and Schmidt works from home doing freelance Web site design.

???? The Goods

Woodngoods.com specializes in handmade oak storage benches and wood items. Currently, the site offers four different bench styles – Mission, Chest, Sleigh and Deacon – that are available in three different finishes – Colonial (the standard, medium finish), Autumn (a light, custom finish) and Spanish (a dark, custom finish). For interested customers, the Chest bench can be custom ordered with an outdoor scene on the front panel. The design is laser

etched and then hand colored. The outdoor motifs offered include, a deer running through a snow-covered field, a wild pheasant, a windmill in the countryside, a vintage tractor, and a jumping bass. The benches range from $ 332 – 442, depending on the style, size and finish.

Most are available in two different lengths – 28″ and 36″. All of the benches feature a storage compartment that’s at least 7″ deep, making them ideal for stashing magazines, hats, mittens, blankets, toys and other items. Each of the benches is built to be a family heirloom that will withstand time and use. They feature solid oak construction, have continuous solid brass hinges on the flip top seats and are double seal-coated for extra protection against

moisture and wear. The Wood ‘n Goods Web site also offers a fine oak Flag Display Case for $ 55. The oak, glass, and brass-hinged piece allows users to, at the same time, carefully protect and tastefully display a family’s memorial flag.

Forest Whitaker Provides Finale for 2012 Ringling College Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab Season That Included Elijah Wood, Edward Burns, James Woods and Whit Stillman

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) April 24, 2012

Ringling College of Art and Design today reported on the completion of the third season of the Colleges Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab, which featured actor/director Forest Whitaker in the season finale leading question and answer sessions with students, local filmmakers and media following a screening of his Academy Award-winning performance in “The Last King of Scotland.”

In the public question and answer session moderated by producer Paul Schiff, Forest stated that, Honestly, you can make a movie and you can tell a story. It is possible, its more than possible – you can do it, its just a question of having the fortitude to push it forward and getting somebody to see it. Of particular interest to Ringling students was Mr. Whitaker’s transition from actor to director and what they could learn through his experiences to become better directors themselves.

Ringling College president Dr. Larry R. Thompson said, Forest provided great insight into the development of character and an actors need for direction to embrace their character. His enlightened social consciousness and the ongoing commitment of his professional talents to projects addressing pressing societal issues was both instructional and inspirational to Ringling students seeking to make a difference with their work.

Forest provided an exceptional finale to a third season that also included Elijah Wood, Edward Burns, James Woods and Whit Stillman, said Sam Logan, who with Future of Films cofounder David Shapiro, partnered with Ringling to develop the Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab. Over the past three years Ringling students have learned from, worked with and have been recruited by Werner Herzog, Bill Paxton, Martha Stewart, Andy Garcia, Paul Schiff, Oren Moverman, Ben Foster and Ed Carroll, among others. The Ringling College Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab is providing our students with industry access on par with, or exceeding, film schools in Los Angeles and New York.

Ringling College class of 2011 Digital Filmmaking graduate Jason Letkiewicz said that, “The skills I learned and the people I became close with during my time at Ringling have been essential to my growth as a director. Less than a year out of college I find myself directing projects for the largest studio in NYC and competing for big national jobs. It is surreal to step off your set and see Martin Scorsese working on something across the hall. There is no question that I have a lot to thank this school for.”

The Studio Lab began its third season in November 2011 with director, actor and writer Edward Burns discussing the evolution of the film production and distribution process. Mr. Burns drilled down on the new economics of film with students. His experience shooting, producing and distributing the first feature film to premiere exclusively on iTunes and the lessons learned have provided an interesting new model for aspiring filmmakers. In due time its my belief that direct to consumer sales is how a lot of people – not only filmmakers – are going to be getting their art, their work, to the people that want it. Youre seeing it now in the publishing world with ebooks, youve seen bands like Radiohead do it and its only a matter of time before the indie, or specialized, movie business, starts to do that as well, Eddie stated in an interview with Ringling students.

Academy Award? and Emmy?-nominated actor James Woods was the next Studio Lab luminary. His extensive experience in film and television and insight into the actor/director relationship, coupled with his extraordinary capabilities as a communicator, was instrumental in detailing for students how to provide the direction actors are looking for. In an interview James stated that I was immensely impressed with the direction in which they (Ringling) were going, the level of work and the almost serene confidence of the students and I realized that this was a place that was more of a halfway point between the academic world and the professional world. It was clear that they (students) were going to be moving immediately into a professional environment.

Acclaimed actor Elijah Wood came to the Studio Lab in January. Dr. Thompson commented, He has been the central lead in an impressive roster of fine film and television projects and his unique viewpoint as one of the younger actors to have worked with our students. Having grown up in the business, Elijah has an incredible amount of experience for someone his age and a natural empathy that synched so well with our students. The interaction was truly engaging to witness, especially as Elijah and Digital Filmmaking Department Head Bradley Battersby gave mutual notes and feedback to students when reviewing their senior projects in the Master Class.

The Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab featured writer and director Whit Stillman in February. Whit has written, directed, and produced four films and his first, Metropolitan, received an Oscar nomination for best writing. Whit previewed his upcoming feature, Damsels in Distress, before commercial release. Whit captures the rise and fall of societal trends eloquently and dissects the culture and characters existing within, said Dr. Thompson. His facility with story and ability to develop the depth of his characters is integral to the foundation of exceptional filmmaking. His control of the creative process from original idea to writing and character development to casting and directing the film was enlightening to our students in this era of specialization. Also Whits direction to focus on big stories that have wide appeal – versus getting too specific and minimizing your potential audience – was of surprising yet significant benefit to all our students.

During the academic year Ringling students across all disciplines got to work on feature films shot in and around Sarasota – Anna Paquins movie “Free Ride” and Harmony Korines film “Spring Breakers.” According to Ringling Digital Filmmaking Senior Andrew Burhoe, Working with Anna Paquin had to be one of best experiences I will ever have. Who can say ‘Oh I had to drive Anna Paquin to CVS and along the way we talked just about everything’? With Korine in town, I got a rare chance to see him direct. It was amazing to observe another director do what they do. To see him like that was something I can honestly say would not have happened had it not been for Ringling College. Overall I can leaving here has set me on a course I know will only lead to bigger things.”

Ringling College graduate and Moonbot Studios co-founder Brandon Oldenburg recently won an Oscar at the 84th Academy Awards? for the film The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, on which nineteen Ringling graduates and one intern worked.

We have had an exceptional year, and I thank our visiting luminaries and Sam Logan and David Shapiro of Future of Films for facilitating their visits; and the Ringling Founders Club, PNC Wealth Management, Sarasota Magazine and Biz941 for supporting the program, concluded Dr. Thompson.

The Ringling College Digital Filmmaking program is ranked as one of the top 25 film schools in the world by The Hollywood Reporter.
